Egg Freezing

Egg freezing is the process of preserving mature egg cells obtained from a woman by freezing them under special laboratory conditions for use in future years. This method is an important option especially for women who plan pregnancy in the future or who will undergo a medical process that may affect their fertility.

Eggs obtained and frozen at younger ages can be stored for use in later years. When pregnancy is planned, these eggs can be thawed, fertilized with sperm, and embryos can be created. However, the egg freezing procedure does not guarantee pregnancy; the chance of success depends on many factors such as the woman’s age, egg count, egg quality, and general health condition.

At İRENBE, the egg freezing process is planned with an experienced physician staff, embryology laboratory, up-to-date technological infrastructure, and a personalized follow-up approach.

Who Can Undergo Egg Freezing?

The egg freezing procedure may especially come to the agenda in medical conditions that may affect fertility.

This procedure may be applied;

  • Before treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy that may damage ovarian cells,
  • Before surgeries that may affect reproductive functions, such as the removal of the ovaries,
  • In women with low ovarian reserve, who have not yet given birth, or who have a family history of early menopause, when deemed appropriate with the necessary medical board report.

In the evaluation of ovarian reserve, AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) testing, ultrasound evaluation of the ovaries, and the patient’s age are considered together. A low AMH level may indicate diminished ovarian reserve; however, the decision is made not based on a single test result alone, but together with the physician’s evaluation.

At İRENBE, in suitable patients, the necessary examinations, tests, and evaluations are carried out, and a medical board report consisting of three specialist physicians can be issued. Thus, the egg freezing process is planned within the framework of medical requirements and relevant legislation.

How Does the Egg Freezing Process Progress?

The egg freezing process usually begins on the 2nd or 3rd day of the menstrual period. During this process, medication treatment planned by the physician is applied to stimulate the ovaries. The aim is to ensure the development of more than one egg within the same month.

When the eggs reach the desired maturity, a trigger injection is administered. Approximately 35–36 hours later, the egg retrieval procedure is performed. The collected mature eggs are frozen and stored in the embryology laboratory using the vitrification method.

When pregnancy is planned in the future, the frozen eggs can be thawed and fertilized with sperm, and after embryo development is achieved, the transfer process can be evaluated.
